The first 20 km or so were on Hwy 25 and although the shoulder wasn’t very wide, there was so little traffic and the terrain so flat, it was still quite relaxing. Beyond that, we left the highway for the coast road which was one the quietest roads we had ridden so far.
We stopped for refreshments at Miranda Hot Springs. There were more staff there than were customers even though the pool looked lovely and their thickshakes (even more ice cream than a milkshake) were awesome.
Shortly after leaving the Miranda, we found Martel parked at a quiet spot, just off the road. He`d missed the hot springs because we hadn`t mentioned where we`d be stopping for the morning break.
Then a short ride before we stopped for lunch at a park in Kaiaua. After lunch, we passed through beach-cottage area: lots of vacation properties, B&Bs and even a couple of small spas/resorts.
As we headed inland, it got hilly again, but we actually welcomed it after the flat morning, Coromandel-fit as we were..
Our destination that night was the Orere Motor Camp. We had two cute cabins, each with a full kitchen and a porch. Eric, Carole and Martel are in one cabin while Fran, Jenni and I are in the other.
That night we went to the beach and attended a dance recital put on by the Orere primary school. The kids had only been back to school for a couple of weeks, and being so young, had to be prompted/led by the dance teachers. But they were all very cute.

Just before bed, Eric informed us that there were only 3 ferries to Auckland tomorrow: 11:30, 1:30 and 2:40.
This was our second-to-last day, so we were slightly subdued heading to bed.
